The Pixel 7 and 7 Pro are some of our favorite smartphones for 2022, both discounted from their launch prices. You can get similar deals from Google itself, but Amazon’s prices are a few pounds cheaper.
Sony’s Xperia 1 IV is a very interesting phone, but one that will only appeal to select people. Some of that comes at a painfully high price, but now it’s slightly less painful.
There’s also the smaller Sony Xperia 5 IV, but at just £150 less than the 1 IV, is it really worth it? It’s a fairly tall phone, depending on whether you want the device or not.
Sony’s mid-range Xperia 10 IV has a microSD slot and a 3.5m headphone jack just like its flagship sibling, and the battery life for this generation is outstanding. The Mark 4 flagship may be out of your budget, but the 10 IV should be considered if you’re looking for a mid-he Ranger.
We end this section with the Samsung Galaxy M53. It’s a big phone with a 6.7-inch 120Hz display, a zippy Dimensity 900, along with a 108MP camera and his appropriately sized 5,000mAh battery.

The Motorola Edge 30 packs an impressive 144Hz 6.5 inch OLED display (FHD+ resolution) and stands out in the 300-400 Euro category. Samsung will be announcing the Galaxy S23 series in February, so it’s the worst time to buy an S22, or the best time considering the price has dropped to $650. With OS updates, one of which is already in place, plus a year of security patches, it will be a while before the S22 is retired.
That said, you might want to pick up the Galaxy Z Flip 4 instead. Foldables are the form factor of the future as far as Samsung is concerned, but the only thing holding them back is the price. The Z Flip4 has gotten cheaper over time and is currently $850. Note that Z Flip 5 isn’t too far away, either.But we have about half a year before it comes out.
If foldable isn’t your thing, check out the OnePlus 10T. At $550, it comes with a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset (the S22 has the original 8 Gen 1). It doesn’t have the best camera settings, but it has a very fast charge of 125W.
The 2021 Apple iPad Pro 12.9 uses the older Apple M1 chip, and the 2022 model has switched to the M2. However, the M1 is still one of the fastest laptop chips, so it’s basically better than any other tablet (except its successors).
