Meet AMD’s 65W Zen 4 Processor
The original Zen 4 processors all had TDPs in excess of 100W, with some approaching 200W, making them unsuitable for small form factor builds. To fix that gap, AMD released his three new processors with a TDP of 65W. The Ryzen 5 7600, Ryzen 7 7700 and Ryzen 9 7900 all have the same TDP, support DDR5 and ship with either a Wraith Stealth or Wraith Prism cooler.
The Ryzen 5 7600 clocks a bit lower than its X-bearing partner, peaking at 5.1 GHz instead of 5.3 GHz, but the cache and integrated GPU remain the same. The Ryzen 7 7700 runs at 5.3 GHz and loses 100 MHz from its boost relatively, but like its predecessor chip, all other specs remain the same. Finally, the Ryzen 9 7900 is down from 5.6GHz to 5.4GHz but otherwise matches his Ryzen 9 7900X.
Tweaktown tested all three against the latest and greatest processors from Intel and AMD, as well as previous generation processors. If you’re gaming at 1080p, you won’t see much of a difference. The chip works well in other tests, but it’s not as fast as the others.
The pricing suggests that AMD considers these processors a different breed than the X-series processors. Under $10. If power consumption and heat are not a big concern, then the X’s are the best to use, but if you’re building in an SFF case, they’re a good choice.
