MSI appears to have cut ties with Afterburner’s Russian developer
MSI recently confirmed rumors that they did not pay Alexey ‘Unwinder’ Nicolaychuk for developing and supporting Afterburner or RivaTuner Statistics Server. As you can imagine, this was due to the Ukrainian invasion, which is the first we’ve heard of it, but Alexey said MSI stopped fulfilling his license agreement 11 months prior. increase. He continues to develop the overclocking application and his RivaTuner Statistics Server on which it depends, but is considering shifting his focus to other projects.
MSI says Afterburner will continue for the time being and is not the end of the story. It’s unclear who will take over support, but MSI is confident he can continue to provide support and improvements to Afterburner. Meanwhile, the RivaTuner Statistics Server, on which MSI Afterburner depends, is another Alexey project that he plans to continue working on.
It’ll be interesting to see what the impact of all this will be, but it looks like Afterburner will continue in some form, at least for now.
