VR treadmills are technology that makes you feel like you’re in the future just by being there. I’ve dreamed of trying one for several years, wondering if it would live up to both the marketing hype and my own wishes. It just raises your expectations. Additionally, these are bulky kits that are cumbersome and certainly not cheap.
But let’s face reality. There’s a lot of complexity in VR, and there’s not a lot that feels particularly good or true-to-life right now. After using the Kat VR C2+ for a couple of weeks, he told me that it doesn’t fit the real world at all. But it doesn’t have to be.
First, everything on the Kat VR C2+ treadmill feels larger than life. In my case it came in several boxes and spanned about 4 different deliveries, one of which she needed a pallet for. I’m not an elegant creature and had a lot of bruises from the build with all its heavy parts. It gave me absolute confidence to toss myself in. Again, very helpful, especially for a non-elegant person like me.

With the Kat VR C2+ installed in my small living space, the 1.2m footprint becomes a dedicated VR space that feels larger than it could have otherwise been achieved. You need a little extra space to swing your arms around, because hitting a wall unexpectedly too close can be a painful experience. , I feel confident in my movements. I know I won’t randomly bump my foot on the couch or fall without support. I did have to worry about overstretching my arm and bumping into a nearby TV, but other than that, I feel safer using the treadmill.
It also supports a wide variety of VR headsets and configurations. I’m using it with my Meta Quest 2 linked to my PC and had no problems getting everything to work together. With the treadmill and Quest, there are no cables near your body. This has always been my favourite. There’s also a KatVR Nexus attachment that lets you connect your treadmill directly to your Meta headset. It’s still fairly new and not as good as the PC experience. You can’t adjust Kat’s settings without exiting the game, and it doesn’t feel smooth. It’s pretty cool if you only have quests, but it definitely makes the experience a lot worse compared to PC.

Once set up and connected the way you choose, you need to charge and pair the three separate sensors. It’s not difficult to set up, but it’s what it is above. Thankfully, they all charge from the treadmill itself, making it easy to manage.
Walking through one of these things requires a bit of understanding, but everyone I’ve introduced so far has the basic concept within minutes. You may need to invest extra if you have family members with different foot sizes, as special shoes are required and only one pair is available with the treadmill. tabs to increase base resistance. You can take it off when you feel confident. The slides make up the bulk of the treadmill’s movement, so removing them all gives the best results.
I’ve found different techniques depending on the game and what you want to achieve, but it’s kind of runstep and slideback. Once you’re in a free flowing environment this can start to feel very natural and the base does a lot of work sliding you back. It’s usually set via replacement bindings on the controller, such as setting Walk to Stick.

When the game doesn’t work, it feels like typical, slightly clumsy VR, a bit like what home VR felt like just a few years ago. It’s fun and innovative, but it’s not worth the effort. For example, walking and running around in Skyrim VR is a lot of fun, but it’s also hard work and doesn’t feel like real movement. Especially in The Elder Scrolls High Fantasy setting, the early game is filled with narrow passages and stairs.
Using a VR treadmill isn’t difficult, but neither is it easy.
No Man’s Sky, on the other hand, lets you really get lost in all the fantasies. Movement is smooth, tracks much better than others, and most of the time you’re on an open planet that’s great to explore. It’s like you can see yourself getting lost after spending so much time exploring the world.

Using a VR treadmill is not difficult, but neither is it easy. Also, what the body is doing is pretty weird. Fitness and strength play an important role in how much you can do, whether it’s your stamina for longer sessions or your strength in a particular action. It has a section, and while it might be great for fitness, it’s a bit of a barrier to use, and it’s worth considering before dropping your money.
This treadmill also comes with a removable vehicle hub. This is basically a flip down seat that attaches to the main structure. It does get in the way of Kat VR’s sensor buttons, so you have to press them quite a bit, but other than that, it’s a welcome addition. You can flip it over and sit down, which is very convenient for those moments when you need a break.

You can continue playing by simply using the controller’s thumbsticks while seated, and in some configurations you can also control the vehicle by twisting and pushing with your feet. This means that for games like Skyrim VR and No Man’s Sky, you don’t have to keep standing on a treadmill when moving to mounts and vehicles, and it feels more natural. But there are still little extra elements like finding a seat, pressing sensor buttons, changing settings, and all those little extras that detract from the experience.
When everything is working and you are in the moment, walking around in VR is a wild and completely liberating feeling for this medium. That little brain deception magic is definitely there so I’ll try more games to find it now Kat VR treadmill by the way movement translates to games and his level of fitness , feels more restricted.
The biggest question I keep asking myself about this device is if I think it’s the “future of VR,” but I’m still not sure. But if you extend the question to the future, the answer is definitely there. I’ve played VR games in large open warehouses and never felt as free and safe as this machine. For anyone serious about VR in a physical way, I can’t think of a better way to enhance the experience than the Kat VR C2 right now.
