Samsung is gearing up for the upcoming Galaxy S23 launch, with an event officially scheduled for February 1st.
The photo matches a render from OnLeaks shared a few months ago. This year, the Galaxy S line picks up the camera design cues from the Ultra models and uses individual camera lenses rather than big angular camera blocks. The sides are also nicely rounded, which should make it easier to hold than flat-sided devices.The WinFuture photo is technically of the base model S23, but the S23 Plus should look the same. According to WinFuture, the available colors are “‘Phantom Black’ (black), ‘Botanic Green’ (green), ‘Mystic Lilac’ (pink/purple), and ‘Cotton Flower’ (white).”
The S23 Ultra is expected to look similar to the S22 Ultra. So unlike the base model’s rounded corner design, it’s instead an aggressively rectangular pane of glass with flat edges on the top and bottom. The space to do spreads out. This is a great addition to the more premium models.
As usual, the S23 line comes with spec upgrades. In the US, the phone will feature the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. Globally, Samsung often ships his Exynos to some regions, but the phone division has a precarious relationship with Samsung’s chip division over the poor performance of Samsung’s internal system-on-chip line. Exactly what “global share” means is open to interpretation, but it most likely means 100% share of S23 devices, and his flagship Exynos smartphone is dead.
By going all-in on Snapdragon, Samsung could get special treatment from Qualcomm. Samsung wasn’t on the list of launch partners for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.
Megapixels are irrelevant to camera quality, but not to the S23 Ultra, which will have a 200MP main camera this year. The default mode probably involves “pixel binning” or merging multiple pixel blocks, so the output will not be a 200 MP image. Samsung has several 200 MP sensor models out there, so it’s unclear which model it will be.
Another rumor is that the minimum base storage will increase significantly to 256 GB. This is pretty tempting. Please check back on February 1st.
