We’ve been fans of both Amazfit’s top-tier and mid-range smartwatches. His GTS 3 in particular left a lasting impact as it struck the right balance between features and price. When the package from Amazfit arrived at my doorstep, I ditched my treasured Pixel Watch and slipped on my humble GTS 4 Mini. The switch was a drastic move and may have affected my opinion a bit, although he also tested the GTS 3 before, so that was the criterion I chose for a fair comparison.

Amazfit has announced the GTS 4 Mini smartwatch in July 2022. The GTS 4 Mini is priced at $120 at most retailers such as Amazon, Best Buy and Walmart. You can usually find mid-range smartwatches for $10 off.

At first glance, the cheap and cheerful Amazfit GTS 4 Mini looks just like the Amazfit GTS 3. A closer look helps you see the small differences between the before and after models. Despite having a bright and crisp AMOLED panel, the GTS 4 Mini has a smaller screen at 1.65 inches. The depth of color is great and the sunlight doesn’t interfere with the visibility of the screen in any way.

On the health side, the GTS 4 Mini also offers sleep and menstruation tracking. What really helped me was a small meaningful reminder to drink water, get up and walk when I’ve been sitting for a while. will appreciate these little things.
Other sensors include a heart rate monitor and an SpO2 sensor for oxygen saturation measurements. I can’t say the same for the blood oxygen sensor, but when I compared the heart rate monitor to the Pixel Watch, it was just as accurate. The Amazfit GTS 4 Mini was a little slower in detecting and reporting changes, but that’s acceptable given its price point.
All health and fitness stats recorded by the Amazfit GTS 4 Mini are neatly organized in the awesome Zepp app. From the GPS route of your walk, where you slowed down and where you sped up, to detailed information about your sleep quality and heart rate throughout the night. Amazfit does an excellent job of taking the raw data collected by the wearable and transforming it into useful information for the user.

One of the most attractive features of the affordable Amazfit GTS 4 Mini is the native voice assistant Alexa. Voice commands make it easy to set up tasks or find information like the weather.
All your phone’s notifications will appear on your GTS 4 Mini, but you won’t be able to interact with them. This includes WhatsApp messages, Google Calendar alerts, and Slack pings. Luckily, music controls for apps like Spotify and SoundCloud automatically appear on affordable smartwatches. You can play, pause, or change the audio track that is playing. The volume level can also be adjusted on your Amazfit watch.
The Amazfit GTS 4 Mini held up well during our durable battery test phase. After charging to 100%, the GTS 4 Mini lasted 6-7 days at maximum usage. This includes always-on Bluetooth connectivity, daily workouts, 24/7 real-time heart rate monitoring, and nightly sleep tracking. So while you’re not hitting the advertised 15 days of uptime, you can still squeeze in about 10 days while being a little more conservative than I am.

Next to the Amazfit GTS 3, the GTS 4 Mini doesn’t make much sense. Both of his Amazfit smartwatches are $120 off, but ironically the older models offer more features and feel more premium.
The GTS 4 Mini has a very thick bezel and the crown button does not rotate. This is a shame as the touch response isn’t as good as the GTS 3. Plus, the display is 0.10 inches smaller, so scrolling is a chore. In retrospect, support for third-part apps is non-existent, so there’s not much to scroll through anyway, but this doesn’t count as a win for the GTS 4 Mini.
The number of watch faces available on the GTS 4 Mini is not as large as on other Amazfit watches. This is also unfortunate. And that’s not all. The GTS 4 Mini has no NFC for payments, no speakers or onboard storage for music, and GPS is completely useless unless you connect it to your phone via Bluetooth.
Step tracking is incredibly inaccurate, and I think Amazfit saved the pedometer to save money. When I was testing the smartwatch, it recorded 8 steps while sitting in a chair for hours without getting up or moving. This is just one of many examples.
For me, the Amazfit GST 4 Mini delivered around 6-7 days of uptime when fully used. Compared to his 15-day battery life advertised by Amazfit, this felt too short. To be fair, 7 days is still a long time, so I already credited them when they were due. However, it feels like the declared battery rating should have been closer to the actual battery life in moderate to heavy usage.
When the GTS 4 Mini finally dies, charging it again can be a real painstaking task. It takes him 46 minutes to reach 60% from the start. My GTS 4 Mini got him up to 82% in his 1 hour 2 minutes. 1 hour and 45 minutes after turning it on, it’s finally 100%.

Speaking of charging, the included cable is pretty short. It’s a decent charger, so it’s not like you can buy another long USB cable. The cable is so short that I couldn’t even put the GTS 4 Mini on the table while plugged into the wall charger. It left tired bones on my furry bedroom floor.
Amazfit should at least offer a longer one in the box, preferably 100cm.For reference, the standard USB-C cable that comes with most mobile phones is 100cm (3.3 feet) long. However, the cable that comes with the watch is about 45-50 cm long.
competition
Plenty of Fish in the Sea is the same price as the Amazfit GTS 4 Mini and has similar features. If you’re on a tight budget, Garmin, Fitbit, and Amazfit all have rivals for his GTS 4 Mini. The Fitbit Versa 3 and Garmin Vivomove Sport make great contenders and offer everything the GTS 4 Mini can.
Of course, the GTS 4 Mini’s real rival is the GTS 3. Why buy a GTS 4 Mini when there is a GTS 3? The GTS 3 is arguably the better smartwatch of the two.
If you want the experience of a flagship Android smartwatch, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 and Google Pixel Watch are fine.

Here’s my final realization: Amazfit GTS 4 Mini is not a real smartwatch. It’s like a cross between the two, a fitness tracker that brings more to the table.
It’s certainly cheap, but with the GTS 4 Mini showThat’s one thing you don’t want from budget technology. The Amazfit GTS 3, on the other hand, feels much smoother and is a notch higher in build quality. Older smartwatches have larger displays, better tracking, more sport modes, and better touch sensitivity.
If you have $120 in your pocket and are willing to buy an Amazfit smartwatch, we recommend opting for an older wearable, and the GTS 3 is a great choice in every way you can think of. Heck, you get even more sport modes and a bigger display.
These nuances may seem insignificant at first, but ultimately make or break a product. Unfortunately for the GTS 4 Mini, it just isn’t enough to justify its price unless a smartwatch like the GTS 3 is still in use.

Amazfit tried to one-up the old GTS 3, but the formula is incorrect. The GTS 4 Mini is still a decent wearable, but it pales in comparison to the better Amazfit GTS 3.
