Apple unveiled its first new products for 2023 on Tuesday, offering faster versions of its high-end MacBook Pro laptop and Mac mini desktop.
The new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros look just like their predecessors, which launched in late 2021, but add more powerful M2 Pro and M2 Max chips to replace the M1 Pro and M1 Max processors. The Mac mini also looks just like its predecessor, arriving more than two years after the last update to the machine. The Mac mini adds the same M2 chip as the MacBook Air and 13-inch MacBook Pro, but the M2 Pro version contains the same chip as the new high-end MacBook Pro.
Notably, the arrival of the Mac mini with the faster M2 Pro chip allowed the company to ditch one of the last models with an Intel chip. The company also stopped selling his high-end Mac minis with non-Apple processors on Tuesday. The only Intel machine in Apple’s lineup is currently the Mac Pro desktop.
The refreshed 14-inch MacBook Pro starts at $1999, and the 16-inch version remains $2499. The Mac mini costs $599, $100 less than the previous version. Apple says all new Macs will start shipping on January 24th.
