JEDEC is pleased to announce CAMM 0.5
I first learned about CAMMs, aka Compression Attached Memory Modules, last year when Dell announced that everyone should jump on their proposed new mobile memory design. This is a bold move that seems to have paid off, as all members of JEDEC have signed on, and we should expect a fully functional CAMM 1.0 standard from him by the end of the year. There’s a good chance even Apple will adopt this new standard next year.
It may seem strange to replace a proven true mobile memory design, but DDR5 SO-DIMM designs are extremely difficult. The 332 companies that are members of JEDEC have unanimously decided to adopt his CAMM going forward, although some adjustments were made to last year’s Dell design. SO-DIMM is for low end machines, but for DDR5-6400 and above machines he should use CAMM.
There’s already talk about using it as a standard for mobile DDR6, and it should be available on low power modules by then, but LPCAMM doesn’t sound right. Please make sure that
