Burly housing lets Insta360 panoramic camera take a deep dive

Last year, Insta360 announced the One RS 1-Inch 360 Edition. This is a high-end panoramic camera designed in partnership with Leica. Thanks to the Mantis Sub’s RS360 waterproof housing, you can shoot underwater more than ever before.

First of all, the Insta360 One RS 1-Inch 360 Edition (that’s a pretty name) is no slouch on its own. It uses two wide-angle lenses and two 1-inch sensors to capture 360-degree 6K stereo sound video, smoothed out by an onboard image stabilization and horizontal leveling algorithm.

The camera is also IPX3 water resistant, meaning it can withstand splashes, but not submersion.

At least one 3rd party polycarbonate underwater housing is available that allows the camera to be submerged to a depth of 40m (131ft).

The RS360 features two 4-inch acrylic domes for the lenses and is reported to weigh 850 g (30 oz).

Mantis Sub’s RS360 is machined from a solid block of hard-anodized aluminum, so it’s designed for more rugged use. The metal is claimed to not only dissipate the heat generated by the camera better than plastic, but also keep the housing watertight to a depth of 250 m (820 ft).

Given the fact that many people don’t dive that deep, the housing has a bulkhead port that allows the camera to be attached to and controlled by an ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle).

The RS360 housing is available now, priced at US$1,680. The Insta360 One RS 1 inch 360 Edition is priced at $799.99.
