According to the report, global PC shipments fell by a record 27.8% (YoY) in Q4 2022 to reach 65.2 million units, with overall 2022 shipments down 15% (YoY).

According to a new report from Counterpoint Research, macroeconomic headwinds, rising inflationary pressures and frozen PC demand have impacted the global PC market in 2022.

Lenovo continues to lead the market in Q4 2022, but its share remained flat at 23.7%. In 2022, shipments are down 17% year-on-year, capturing a 23.7% market share.

HP secured second place in Q4 2022 with 20.3% share. According to the report, Q4 shipments were down 29% year-over-year, but it was the only major PC OEM to post consecutive positive growth in Q4 shipments.
Additionally, Dell’s 16.7% market share was the lowest in seven quarters, largely due to slowing business demand.
According to the report, Dell’s market share and shipment performance could come under pressure in 2023.
With Apple’s shipments in Q4 2022 down just 3% (year-over-year), the company was able to close out the book with flat shipment performance in 2022.
Furthermore, the report says consumer demand is likely to pick up gradually in the second half of 2023, followed by a slow warm-up of corporate procurement.
Noting the success of Apple’s M-series, Qualcomm’s Arm-based Oryon CPUs are likely to enter the market and boost Windows-on-Arm momentum in 2023, the report says.
