Spacecamper is already one of Germany’s most famous innovators of lightweight, flexible (and sometimes super-fast) Volkswagen campers. If its latest concept camper goes into production, it will quickly become known as the spirit behind the lightest, most flexible electric micro RV bikes in the country.
Designed as a digital nomad RV with a smaller footprint than your average e-camper, the Spacecamper Bike Prototype is an e-cargo bike with a deployable overbike tarp, multi-adjustable sleeping platform, and mobile workstation. Travel by e-bike during the day and enjoy a cozy RV where you can camp anywhere at night.
The new ebike camper is the brainchild of Ben Wawra, co-founder and CEO of Spacecamper. He is his RVer dedicated and lives and works on the streets in his Spacecamper of his own. A bike enthusiast, his Wawra was looking for a way to bring the #vanlife experience to two wheels. Wawra’s partner Markus Riese is the founder and namesake of his ebike specialist in Germany, his Riese & Müller, as we found out when we first examined his Spacecamper in 2009. Naturally, the Spacecamper Bike will be built on top of Riese & Müller’s Load e-cargo bike his platform.
More specifically, the Spacecamper Bike is based on Riese & Müller’s Load 75 with a Bosch mid-drive with a 1,000W dual battery system and a 14-speed belt drive. The bike comes with both front and rear suspension and can run mountain bike tires for greater off-road capability.

The camper part of the Spacecamper Bike equation is packaged in an innovative multi-function module that drops into the Load 75’s cargo bay and can be easily removed, allowing the bike to be used for other purposes. Like the convertible dining bench in your camper, the convertible module serves as an all-in-one storage space, seat and sleeping area.
For pedal-assisted rides to camp, the Spacecamper Bike Module carries tarps, tabletops, and other camping gear, such as portable stoves and water canisters. The contents are further protected and protected from the weather with a rain cover.

Upon arrival, a specially developed module transforms into a rear-facing chair or a forward-facing lounge seat. The latter supports a reclined, recumbent-style position with the help of tall folding seat backs and an extended leg support frame. At night, the lounger drops into a flat position to act as a cot-like sleeper. If you wrap yourself in a sleeping bag or outdoor quilt for warmth, there’s a camper above-ground bed on top of the e-bike.

On clear days you can even sleep under the stars. Spacecamper also equips ebike campers with tarps for weather protection. The tarp covers the entire bike and is pitched with telescoping poles that are fixed to the bike frame and extend outward to create a roof. A rear load rack and lounger frame also help keep the tarp in shape without the need for guylines or ground stakes. Two sidewalls protect all around the bike and the entry zipper makes it easy to get in and out.
The final component of Spacecamper’s micro RV, the removable tabletop attaches to a frame above folding handlebars to create a dining table and desk. The lounger folds into a rear-facing upright seat, and campers can use this area to prepare, cook, eat, and type on their laptops.

Spacecamper has unveiled its ebike camper concept at the CMT Campervan and Travel Show in Stuttgart this week. There are no detailed plans to start designing yet, but Spacecamper Bike’s microsite suggests that a more serious version could arrive in the summer of 2023 (northern hemisphere). The 75 ebike itself starts at €6,899 (around US$7,475) for his in Germany and goes up from there based on extras like his 14-speed belted drivetrain and his second Bosch battery pack.
