The World Championship Boxing Manager 2 prequel came out before I was even born, so the news about the second game took me by surprise. I wasn’t sure how the second part would come up, because the game was so different back then.
The original title was a cult hit in the 90’s, but modern games have new demands. What once worked has stopped working — only evolution, like life itself, is constant.
After hours of playing the game, I can’t help but think of all the positive things a developer deserves. World Championship Boxing Manager 2 truly embraces the necessary changes without sacrificing the original aesthetic of the first title.
World Championship Boxing Manager 2 is a perfect homage to the first game while modernizing some aspects
Is there a boxing game that doesn’t go back to its famous homage to the great Muhammad Ali? World Championship Boxing Manager 2 does exactly what it sounds like and does everything related to boxing except fighting in the ring.
But make no mistake, there are plenty of elements in the game that allow you to immerse yourself in the finer details. There are many management games out there, including some great titles in the sports field.
For example, World Championship Boxing Manager 2 may not be as complex as Football Manager 2023. But there’s plenty of room internally for micromanagement if you’re into that sort of thing. Plus, you have the freedom to follow different paths that include well-directed narratives.
Let’s start with why I spent most of last weekend playing, trying to unearth my own Rocky Balboa from the huge pool of generic fighters.
Story and game modes
As I said earlier, the first game was ahead of my time. I could have researched it on the internet, but I decided to go blindly into World Championship Boxing Manager 2. We believe that moving forward with a clear mindset is often more rewarding. decades.
The first thing that struck me was the depth and richness of the story mode. Additionally, there are a wealth of different narrative paths for players to choose from. When you start the game, your options for choosing story mode are much more limited.
Only one is unlocked at first, but it’s a great way to learn the game.
If you don’t like the limitations of story mode, there’s a full-fledged career mode. This is essentially a sandbox of the game and does not offer a hand held. I started in career mode, but quickly learned my lesson the hard way.
gameplay
To be honest, I don’t like games with pixelated graphics. Based on your taste, it can also piss you off. All battles are rendered similarly, with no unique animations, signature moves, etc.
That said, the gameplay is so much fun that even the simple battles will get you hooked on the game. We also feel that the graphics in World Championship Boxing Manager 2 will allow many players with moderate PCs to enjoy the game. I am very grateful for this.
There are many details to pay attention to while saving. From scheduling training to booking games, I was always enthusiastic. This made the fights look fresh and enjoyable. I liked the emphasis on good strategy as it’s not about making random decisions.
Every match requires a decision on the boxer’s strategy in the ring. As lucrative as it may sound, attacking all-out and taking too many risks has proven to be highly counterproductive. Additionally, powerful tactics will always change based on your opponent’s skill, so you’ll need to strategize appropriately.
I really liked games that showed the strengths and weaknesses of the opponent. You can see your boxer’s stats, but your opponent’s stats are hidden (that’s the way it is). This gives you an idea of what to expect, but you should also expect surprises.
World Championship Boxing Manager 2’s difficulty scaling is decent, but can feel rough at times. After all, the unpredictability of reality is built into the game as it is, so there is a possibility that you may lose even if you are the favorite.
Activity content
Management games should be judged by the activities they can perform. World Championship Boxing Manager 2 has a lot to do, but it didn’t overwhelm me. A basic task is to maintain a schedule for booking fights. That’s not all. You also have to manage your boxers. That way you can control their training and rest.
There are many ways to improve your Boxer’s skills and attributes. Choosing the right workout his routine is a must. After all, your boxer is human, and constant training will use up your stamina.
Their morale and mental state also need attention. Celebrating after a big win or taking an extra day off will pay off in the long run. Despite its casual approach, World Championship Boxing Manager 2 perfectly portrays the human side of combat sports.
performance
Well, it’s fair to say that World Championship Boxing Manager 2 isn’t a very graphically intensive game. Even the most basic system should work very well, and it all comes down to optimization.
The frame seemed consistent, and the hardware never experienced a sharp drop or spike in temperature. Overall, the game ran fine, performed as it was supposed to, and didn’t encounter any bugs.
The conclusion is
World Championship Boxing Manager 2 wishes I was born early so that I could play my first title. Time Machine is still a sci-fi concept, but the developers have managed to strike a healthy balance between modernism and old-world heritage.
The game is a relatively straightforward take compared to other titles such as Football Manager 2023. However, there is still a lot to enjoy in terms of management, customization, and more. It has some drawbacks, one related to the more extensive tutorial system.
Once again, World Championship Boxing Manager 2 is not rocket science, and fans of management games will feel right at home. Different game modes, fun graphics, and interesting mechanics make it replayable. To make it even more interesting, players can also use Rocky his story based on the life of Marciano and Sugar Ray his Robinson mode.
The pixelated graphics may defy the title but I liked it. It keeps things simple on my system.I don’t believe graphics are to blame for management games Additionally, the surrealistic presentation of the second game may have lost the aesthetic value of the first game.
I’m excited to see what Ziggurat has in store for game content in the near future. This was my first time reviewing one of their games and it left a lot of positive impressions on my mind.
