Mary Ann Cummings
Mary Ann Cummings, Assistant Professor of Computer Science, was awarded the 2023 Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, Anna K. Fridley Distinguished Teaching Award. Her prize is $1,000.
Joining MSU’s Gianforte School of Computing in 2018 after a 33-year career at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Cummings teaches three courses in Computer Science and Software Engineering each semester. He to 100 students per semester.
Cummings is well known among students and is always available to help with assignments, review resumes, celebrate achievements and provide life guidance. For this reason, she is popular as her advisor in academics, and many computer science students choose her as her preferred choice.

Paxton said Cummings is consistently improving the classes she teaches, including unique and challenging courses offered to both computer science and electrical engineering students. She is also an advisor to the Faculty of the Association for Women in Computing Club and an associate of the Science, Technology, Ethics and Society Center of MSU, which she co-founded. .
