Popular Wordle clone Quordle has been acquired by Merriam Webster

Popular Wordle clone Quordle(opens in new window) is now part of Merriam-Webster.

This game is one of the most popular games similar to Wordle. This is probably because it offers a slightly more challenging challenge than the original (Quordle juggles four word puzzles at the same time instead of just one).

The game is now hosted on Merriam-Webster’s site instead of its own site, and the new site has a small Merriam-Webster logo at the top. Quordle is also featured prominently on Merriam-Webster’s home page.

Merriam-Webster is a US publisher of reference books and dictionaries. It is itself owned by Encyclopædia Britannica, which was acquired in 1964.

In particular, it’s been almost exactly a year since The New York Times acquired Wordle. This is the game that sparked the 6 letter word guessing craze. And in July 2022, a musical variant of Wordle called Heardle was acquired by Spotify.
