Nothing is putting the finishing touches on Nothing OS 1.5.0 based on Android 13, and the company has released version 1.1.8 of its Android skin for Nothing phones (1). The update is based on Android 12 and may be one of the last updates for devices based on legacy Android versions.
As spotted by an XDA developer (opens in new tab), Nothing OS 1.1.8 is now competing with the best cheap Android phone companies. A notable improvement is the inclusion of the Nothing X app, which replaces the Ear (1) app. None of the legacy apps were released as part of an update that introduced a series of camera improvements to the phone last September (1).
Nothing X offers new ways to customize your listening experience by allowing you to toggle noise canceling modes, change gesture controls, adjust equalizer, and view battery level. This update also introduces new security patches for January 2023.
If you follow Nothing-related news, you know some of these updates arrived a few days ago as part of the second Android 13 Beta (1) for phones. In addition to the Nothing X app, the device also introduced new glyph ringtones, added wallpapers, improved animations, and more.
Nothing OS 1.1.8’s full changelog mentions bug fixes common in such updates, but does not specify which issues were addressed.
The latest update is currently only available for the global version of the phone, excluding European models. According to XDA, Nothing will only unify regional firmware packages with the release of Nothing OS 1.5 Open Beta 2.

Nothing Phone (1) is an eye-catching phone that will make you stand out wherever you are. Despite being a mid-range device, the combination of the Glyph interface on the back of the smartphone and Nothing OS breathes new life into the smartphone world.
