Roland has announced the launch of the FP-E50. This portable piano and creativity workstation is designed as an easy introduction for beginners, while being advanced enough to satisfy professionals, including Roland’s flagship synthesis engine.
The latest member of Roland’s FP series of portable digital pianos features 88 full-size keys with hammer action, escapement and ivory-like materials to bring classic realism to your playing experience. Meanwhile, the company’s Supernatural Piano Sound his engine is reported to offer the authentic feel and response of an acoustic grand.
The highlight here is the powerful Zen-Core sound engine found in Roland’s professional keyboard workstations such as the Jupiter-X and Fantom. Over 1,000 sounds are available, including brass and orchestral voices, as well as guitars, basses, percussion, and historic Roland synths tones.

Players can layer Zen-Core tones or assign different tones to the left and right portions of the keyboard. Meanwhile, heading to the Roland cloud platform, EXZ Wave, SDZ Sound, and his upcoming Z-style his tone library.
On-board recording can capture up to 200 minutes of noodles per song, or 390 minutes total, in 16-bit/44.1 kHz WAV format. The player can listen to the music he created through two built-in 4.75-inch speakers rated at 11 watts each. You can also route the output to external speakers. There is also a headphone jack for personal practice.
A bunch of auto-accompaniment tools offer versatile backing bands that can cover 177 different musical styles, and there’s even a chord sequencer for melody development and improvisation.
At-a-glance parameter checking via the top-level LCD graphic display and direct access to sounds/tones via panel controls on either side. Many buttons include long-press functionality for saving settings or tweaking without diving into menus. The user can also instantly recall a complete setup by selecting a scene option.

The FP-E50 features a mic input for singalongs and solo gigs, with an arsenal at your disposal including an onboard vocoder (a combination of instruments, vocal effects and audio processors), auto-harmony functions, compressors and noise suppressors.
