Facebook’s parent company, Meta, has a feature for Messenger called Private Conversations that offers end-to-end encryption without storing chats on cloud servers. Now those messages don’t have to be drab blue/grey speech bubbles on white – Meta has introduced chat customization.
Different users of Secret Conversations can set nicknames, chat themes, custom emojis and reactions, and group photos. This is pretty much all the features that make regular chats different and unique for every friend and group of friends.
Other changes include link previews, active status, and even Android bubbles. That’s right. Messenger and Meta can’t read and store messages, but can display them around his UI on the phone if the app is running.
Please note that private conversations are restricted to your device. This means that it will only appear on smartphones or computers that have set up an encrypted connection. However, you can transfer using a unique key.
Common end-to-end encryption has also been tested with default conversations, Meta revealed in the same press release. The company has “spent time building a team of talented engineers, cryptographers, designers, and policy experts,” all of whom are working on new features.
Over the next few months, some of our chats will be upgraded with an extra layer of protection, and more and more people will see Messenger notifying each chat and thread.
