SNL’s cold open pokes fun at Merrick Garland and the hunt for classified documents

SNL‘s cold open saw the cast infamously searching for “secret government documents.” Don’t worry everyone. U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland (Mikey Day) is in charge of the case.

this week’s saturday night live Actor Michael B. Jordan served as host, joining the comedic forces of cast members Day, Kenan Thompson, Ego Nuwodim, and Bowen Yang. Everything is a little incompetent.

Bolstered by humorously timed whiplashes that recall the great television procedures of the past, Day plays the rocky yet determined Garland. “I may look like I was born in a library, but there’s something you should know: Merrick Garland doesn’t play.”

However, the sketch ended with a more serious message. Memphis police tire him for justice for Nichols’ murder. “After playing with these little papers, you’re going to Memphis and make sure justice is done there too, right?” says Thompson’s character.
