On February 1st, Samsung will host the Galaxy Unpacked 2023 event in San Francisco, California to unveil the new Galaxy S23 series. Mobile phones are expected to set the standard for flagships throughout the year, especially in the first half. That said, Unpacked likely isn’t just about Samsung’s mobile his hardware, and the company has several other announcements to make.
To help you get ready for the event, we’ve rounded up some of the biggest announcements we expect to see at Unpacked based on the rumors we’ve seen so far.
Galaxy S23 series

The Galaxy S23 series is clearly the star of the show. From the leaks, it looks like Samsung has switched designs for its smaller models to make the design language more uniform across its phones. This means there is no camera island, instead the phone has individual cameras sticking out of the back.
Under the hood, some differences are to be expected, including an upgraded Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and a new 200MP primary camera sensor on the Ultra model. That’s nearly double the resolution of the Galaxy S22 Ultra, and should provide a sharper zoom output. Samsung has also hinted at enhanced night photography, which is also highlighted in the Galaxy S22 series. The smaller model is said to have a significantly increased battery capacity. This may appeal to those struggling with the Galaxy S22’s in-between battery life.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy

One interesting rumor that has made the rounds is the presence of a Snapdragon chip designed specifically for Samsung’s latest phones. And not so surprising. The rumored Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy will reportedly boast higher clock speeds on the primary Cortex-X3 core. Instead of 3.2GHz he 3.38GHz.
It’s unclear how much this will improve the Galaxy S23 over the competition. We’ll have to find out more about this mystery chip at launch.
One UI 5.1

Samsung has managed to update as many phones as possible to Android 13. The first major update to One UI 5 is currently scheduled to be released with the Galaxy S23 series. Based on recent leaks, One UI 5.1 brings many new features. Some of them already exist in one form or another on the Pixel series. Samsung, for example, will introduce a new battery widget that shows the status of connected Galaxy devices. Plus, Bixby has a unique Call Screen feature so you can know who is calling you and why.
Other features may include camera changes, new gallery features, more connectivity options, and even a more streamlined setup process with Google Fast Pairing.

While we’re not expecting to see anything along the lines of new smartwatches or earbuds, Samsung has hinted that other devices beyond the Galaxy S23 series will be announced at Unpacked. has shown a new lineup of Galaxy Book laptops running Windows 11.
At the top sits the Galaxy Book 3 Ultra, which is said to feature a 16-inch 3K AMOLED display, Intel’s latest 13th Gen CPU, up to 32GB of RAM, and an NVIDIA RTX4000 series GPU. Additionally, Samsung plans to launch the Galaxy Book 3, Book 3 360, Book 3 Pro, and Book 3 Pro 360 with new features to improve connectivity between phones and computers.
Galaxy Unpacked 2023 takes place on February 1st at 10am PT/1pm ET. The company will offer live streams on Samsung.com, Samsung Newsroom, and the official Samsung YouTube account, but it’s an in-person event.
