so you saw Last of Us Episode 3 “Long long time”. Yeah, we’re all confused, especially after that ending.
The HBO adaptation’s third episode was the biggest departure from a Naughty Dog game to date, giving us a beautiful love story between Bill (Nick Offerman) and Frank (Murray Bartlett).
HBO shared behind-the-scenes footage of the episode, revealing why co-creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann decided to expand on the story and the game’s two supporting characters.
“My philosophy about shows has always been when to deviate and when to come back,” says Druckmann. “If it’s the same or worse, stay where you are. If it’s better, deviate.”
Druckmann, creator of Last of Us The president of Naughty Dog said it was one of the first conversations about the episode with Mazin, Frank’s first physical appearance.
“We discussed using Bill so that he would be alone as a way of looking at how things changed within the context of the man over time,” says Mazin. I knew from the game that Bill had a partner, his partner was Frank, and in the game Frank was already dead, so I thought it was an opportunity to go my separate ways.”
The director of this episode, Peter Hoare, has directed an incredible (and very emotional) British series. it’s a sintalked about the touching final scene with Bill and Frank.
“The last scene gets emotional, but strangely it’s pretty perfunctory. The really important thing is not to get too emotional. we get emotional. We have lived our lives with them. “
