Less than 48 hours left until Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event 2023. As we wait, the South Korean tech giant continues to migrate its well-received Samsung Pay to the new Samsung Wallet, finally making the switch in India.
Samsung Wallet will replace Samsung Pay in the US and European countries in June 2022. Samsung first revealed plans to expand to new countries in October.
The app is already available in 21 countries, Samsung reveals (opens in new tab) Earlier this month, it will be available in countries such as Australia, Brazil, Canada, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, Singapore, and Taiwan by the end of the month.

For Indian consumers, Samsung promises the new wallet app will outperform the existing Samsung Pay, offering smarter ways for people to pay securely. Samsung Pay integration includes tap & pay functionality via NFC and the ability to store transaction cards such as credit and debit cards.
AMEX, MasterCard, and VISA cards are compatible with Samsung Wallet, and other India-only RuPay cards should continue to be supported by Samsung Pay, according to SamMobile. New changes to Samsung Wallet may change that soon.
India relies heavily on UPI (Unified Payment Interface). This allows users to combine multiple bank accounts into one for hassle-free transactions with apps like Google Pay. This UPI feature is also supported by Samsung Pay in India. NFC payments are now categorized under Samsung Wallet.
