The Perry County Sheriff’s Office and Prison was recently awarded grants totaling $324,767 to support facility improvements and supplies.
The Tennessee Department of Finance and Administration has awarded the department $58,993 to conduct video arraignments and court proceedings in 2021.
Perry County Jail has purchased the necessary equipment to house a courtroom on the premises. The grant allows prisons to keep inmates in their facilities and hold courts by video.
During COVID, the spread of the disease sometimes put court proceedings on hold. The subsidy allowed the defendants to stay in the facility, prevent them from contracting the virus and spreading it through the population, and hold courts as scheduled.
