In just three episodes, Last of Us It has already shown promise to be the best TV show of the year. But what if I told you that there’s a book and a movie with an eerily similar premise? And what if I tell you that both the book and the movie are really, really good?
When I first heard a TV show about a deadly fungal infection that turns most of the world’s population into zombies, my first thought was not a popular computer game. Last of UsAdmittedly, I’ve never played the game. But what I did was read M.R. Carey’s wonderful 2014 novel of hers. girl with all the gifts(opens in new window).

I won’t spoil it, so please read it. But the book’s setting is a bleak future where humanity has been nearly wiped out by a deadly fungal infection. Ophiocordyceps unilateralis is also known as the zombie ant fungus. Last of UsYes, one of the main characters is a young girl.
at this point, probably girl with all the gifts is a blatant copy of Last of Us, was launched in 2013. As far as I know, it doesn’t.

Short stories, though very good in their own right, are just glimpses into this world. Novels, on the other hand, are both fascinating and frightening. Having started his career as a comic writer, MR Carey knows how to pick up his pace. Once he starts reading, he finds it difficult to stop and is haunted by the book until he turns the last page.

Oddly enough, I don’t see much chatter these days girl with all the gifts, movie. Yes, there is his 2016 film based on this book, starring Gemma Arterton, Paddy Considine, Glenn Close, and Senia Nanua. And given that the $5 million budget was orders of magnitude lower than recent Hollywood blockbusters, I’m happy to report that the film is surprisingly good. The ending feels a bit rushed compared to the book, so I recommend reading the book first and then checking out the movie, but both are well worth your time.
