Meta’s smartwatch ambitions may not be completely dead.
Kuba Wojciechowski, a tipster known for his Pixel leaks, said: revealed a new image of a smartwatch that was supposedly provided to him by an anonymous source. From the images, it looks like work on this new smartwatch is going well. I can see the device working with the watch face on.

According to Wojciechowski, the device runs Android instead of Wear OS and is a “new version” of the previous leaked watch in 2021. Based on the images, the two devices look very similar, but without the black frames. There is also a notch for the camera at the bottom.
Apparently, Meta still wants wearables to play a role in the Metaverse. According to Wojciechowski, the company hopes to use smartwatches to ease the transition to other devices.
When the original smartwatch first came out, Meta was told he wanted to create a device with LTE connectivity that would connect to the company’s messaging app and have some health-focused features. Such a watch was said to launch in 2022, with a follow-up arriving in 2023. However, the first watch was reportedly canceled in mid-2022, and the smartwatch development began late last year. Interestingly, it doesn’t seem all is lost, and Meta may be rethinking its stance while reusing previous designs. Wojciechowski notes that while the superficial differences and changes in her array of sensors are minor, they are physically very similar to the first version.
