XGO 2 mini quadruped robot is armed – but not dangerous

There was a time when quadrupedal robots were only available to wealthy government and corporate clients, but now there are cheaper miniature models on the market. His latest, XGO 2, is the first minibot with a robotic arm.

Created by Luwu Intelligent Technology, a Harbin Institute of Technology spin-off company, the “desktop-sized” XGO 2 is currently being targeted for a Kickstarter campaign.

As is the case with other small quadrupedal robots (i.e. Bittle and Mini Pupper), the open-source XGO 2 can be controlled remotely in real-time via an app or pre-programmed by tech-savvy types. I can. It utilizes the Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 processor and is compatible with Blockly, Python, and ROS programming languages.

Robots can also be programmed by simply grabbing the robot and physically guiding it to the desired behavior.

An integrated AI module will enable visual, audio and gesture recognition, reportedly allowing XGO 2 to “listen, recognize and respond to the user’s voice, just like a real dog.” I’m here. It also has 6 IMUs (Inertial Measurement Units) and 12 degrees of freedom, so you can freely trot, walk, or “high walk” in any direction, even on uneven surfaces and It can remain stable even on moving surfaces.

Its head combines a camera, microphone, speaker, LCD screen, and push-button controls, the latter two of which can be used for basic programming and switching operating modes. The screen also displays an animated face, giving the bot a bit of personality.

And then there’s that arm…

It has 3 degrees of freedom and is equipped with a gripper that can be opened from 2.5 to 5.5 cm (0.98 to 2.17 inches) wide. Using its appendages, the robot can be instructed to grab, lift, carry, position and drag various objects.

XGO 2 is offered in two models. The standard Mini and the smaller and slightly less powerful Lite. Assuming it reaches production, a US$449 pledge will get you the Lite and the Mini will require US$749. The planned retail prices are US$898 and US$1,398 respectively.
