Counter-Strike is one of the most important and influential PC games in history. It started as his 1999-released Half-Life mod before Valve bought it and hired its creator. Released in 2000, the version of the game was adjusted over time and became known as Counter-Strike 1.6. To this day, you can find purists claiming this is the best game ever. Surprisingly, you can play it in your browser.
First things first: This is a Russian website that appears to have nothing to do with Valve. So this is probably highly illegal and trying to get the Russian authorities to drop it would be a good time for poor Seattle lawyers. On a more practical level, they might worry about malware and trackers I’m no cyber expert, but I’ve run it on 3 different scanners and it looks fine.
then here Play-CS.comThis will allow you to play Counter-Strike 1.6 on different regional servers with all the game’s different modes and different extras. PCG Editor-in-Chief Evan Lahti hit a few bad pins, but it works surprisingly well for me. I’ve played several rounds and modes on different servers, the features are great, it feels exactly like CS 1.6, and I even got a headshot from Bob Dylan (obviously taking a break from his endless tour doing).
This seems like a bit of a passion project. If you used to love CS 1.6, it should provide you with 30 minutes of fun nostalgia. It’s obviously a bit dodgy in that it has nothing to do with Valve, but it’s one of the most iconic games in PC history, 1999’s game that can be played just fine in a browser with full online functionality. The fact that someone made the game is serious. Impressive.
“Real” Counter-Strike is still going strong in the form of Counter-Strike Global Offensive. recently celebrated its 10th anniversary (and made to run at 4,000 FPS by one of its greatest followers). And while it’s not up to Doom’s level, it happens in even weirder places than the browser. Like this Nintendo DS portthis is an absolute slap in the face.
