We have received some questions about this message. This Reddit post has some people wondering what this deal is, but it’s just a bug. This is great because traditional G Suite users already have plenty of experience. In summary, Google now offers businesses the option to pay monthly fees for Google/Gmail accounts that end with a custom domain name instead of @gmail.com. Today, it’s called “Google Workspace,” but due to ongoing Google rebranding, it was first called “Google Apps for your Domain,” then “Google Apps,” and then “G Suite.” I was. Google’s custom domain services weren’t always paywalled and weren’t always dedicated to businesses. It was free from 2006 to 2012. I get a different error message about the non-existent product “Google Workspace for personal use”. Workspace has a tier like ‘Business Starter’ and grandparent users are on ‘Legacy G Suite’ but ‘Workspace for personal use’ doesn’t matter. Apparently, this was all the beta branding for the original plan last year and somehow it all went live yesterday.

By the way, Google Workspace for personal use is the best product Google sells. Both Apple and Microsoft sell custom domain email services to consumers at reasonable rates, but Google doesn’t, just offering business email at a much higher rate. A big part of the problem with traditional G Suite is that these individual users have nowhere to go within Google.
