The new Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra has finally arrived at the office, and with the trend of taking photos and videos, running benchmarks, and taking comparison shots with the previous Ultra, we also need to unpack I thought.
The Galaxy S23 Ultra comes in a box with a SIM eject tool. that’s it. No cables, cases or chargers, just phone and tools. But at this point, there are probably some other necessities rolling in, and Samsung is doing its part to help the environment. We have scaled back the use of and included some bits in the phone itself that are made from recycled fishing nets and plastic bottles.
And many pre-orders of the Galaxy S23 Ultra include a free 25W charger, so you might be fine in that regard.
What you get – a box – and what you don’t have – a charger
By now you should be familiar with Samsung’s S series and how they relate to each other. For several years now I’ve been running a trio of small S phones, medium sized S phones, and very large Ultra phones. Still, enjoy these side-by-side photos we snapped for you!

And here are some shots with the Galaxy S22 Ultra, the predecessor on the left. I can’t tell the difference between the S23 and S22 Ultra in the pictures. The side rails on the newer phones are slightly wider and flatter, making them easier to hold. The display panel is also less curved than its predecessor, which is very subtle, but you can feel it when handling the two side by side.
The three protruding lenses on the back are slightly larger on the Galaxy S23 Ultra, but the phone sits a little lower next to the front model on the table.

Bit by bit we’re gathering our in-depth review of the Galaxy S23 Ultra. stay tuned!
