‘House of the Dragon’ has a behind-the-scenes book. Here are 5 things we learned.

1. George RR Martin originally wanted to start House of the Dragon Decades before the main character was born.

3. The first scene shot for House of the Dragon Episode 7 “Drift Mark.“

Originally, Condal and co-showrunner Miguel Sapochnik planned to shoot House of the Dragonepisodes in chronological order. However, the COVID-19 pandemic delayed the building of the massive Red Keep set, which is a key element of nearly every episode, and caused complications. Kondal and Sapochnik decide to start filming in “Driftmark” instead, as the filming will take place in Corliss his castle in Bellarion. The first scene filmed for the show was an argument between Rhaenys and Corlys over which descendant would inherit his High Tide castle.

Sapochnik and cinematographer Fabian Wagner planned to place us in the character’s point of view, gradually shifting throughout the season, starting with Episode 7 in terms of establishing the cinematography of the show. That was a challenge. During filming, they had to decide where this episode’s look should be for the season. Likewise, the actors had to put themselves in one of the season’s most emotionally charged moments in order to begin filming.

4. What scenes weren’t deleted? House of the Dragon?

Some of the scenes include younger versions of Aricent and Laenira, including an emotional scene in which Aricent comforts Raenira after her mother’s funeral, and Aricent’s marriage to Raenira’s father. There is an argument between the two afterward, and so on. Her second episode of the show also featured Cell her Christon Her Cole joining the Kingsguard, with Viserys and Laenira sharing a bonding moment. As to why it was cut, Condal explained, “It felt out of place to include Raenira’s ‘victory’ before Dragonstone,” where she confronted Daemon.

5. Fabian Frankel used a familiar song to prepare for Christon Cole’s intense scenes.

One of the most important moments of the season for Christon comes near the end of episode 5, right after he kills Laneer’s lover, Joffrey. He goes to the Forest of Gods and prepares to commit suicide, but Aricent arrives and stops him. From that point on, they are inseparable allies.

Since there is no dialogue in this scene, Fabian Frankel, who plays Christon, asked the director, Claire Kilner, if he would like music to play while he was playing the scene so that he could focus on his performance. .
