Quadcopters that can not only fly like aerial drones, but also dive into water and behave like submersibles, can be used for search and rescue missions and technical inspections.
Ben Cheng and his colleagues at the Chinese University of Hong Kong built a prototype device called Mills X that weighs 1.63 kilograms and is 38 centimeters wide. You can hover in the air for 6 minutes or stay underwater for about 40 minutes. Mirs-X is waterproof to a depth of 3 meters and can move at speeds of up to 2 meters per second underwater.
