Wakanda Forever’ becomes the most-watched Marvel premiere on Disney+ • TechCrunch

Five days after its streaming debut on Disney+, “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” has become the most-watched Marvel premiere on Disney+ based on hours streamed in the first five days, the company announced today.

It’s not clear how the film’s streaming performance compares to other Marvel titles on Disney+, as Disney hasn’t provided a specific number of views. ‘s premiere outperformed popular franchises such as ‘Black Widow’ and ‘Avengers: Endgame’.

Disney+’s new streaming record could also mean that more Marvel movies will have longer windows between theatrical releases and streaming releases, but that’s just our guess. A movie with a longer duration is more likely to stick with viewers, as opposed to a streaming-only movie that might not get as much hype. Forever had to wait 82 days to stream on Disney+. This is the longest run of any Marvel movie for a streamer. For comparison, ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ came to Disney+ 62 days after its theatrical release.

The ‘Black Panther’ sequel hits theaters on November 11, 2022 and has grossed over $800 million at the worldwide box office. It was nominated for five Oscars and won a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress (Angela Bassett).
