Back in October 2021, Ken Pilonel made headlines by replacing the iPhone X’s Lighting port with a USB-C connector. Now, the engineer is stepping up to more complex mods by adding his working USB-C port to his pair of first-gen AirPods Pros.
The process involved developing and printing a new circuit board with a USB-C connector, and 3D printing a new AirPods case to fit the custom PCB.
This project involved a lot of iterations and a completely new circuit board design and 3D printing. The necessary schematics have been posted on GitHub so anyone with the right equipment can convert his AirPods to USB-C.
