In the latest news of its expanded partnership last month, Microsoft announced new versions of its Bing search engine and Edge browser that integrate OpenAI’s ChatGPT-style AI language model technology. These new integrations allow users to view search results side-by-side with AI annotations and chat with AI models similar to ChatGPT. A limited preview of the new Bing will be available online today, according to Microsoft.
Microsoft announced the new product at a press event in Redmond on Tuesday. The Verge quoted Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella as speaking at an event, clearly criticizing Google, which has dominated web search for decades. “The race starts today.

During the event, Microsoft demonstrated a new version of Bing that displays traditional search results on the left side of the window and AI-powered context and annotations on the right. Microsoft envisions this side-by-side layout as a way to fact-check AI results, allowing the two sources of information to complement each other. The “new Bing” isn’t the first service to experiment with an AI-assisted search engine. Both Perplexity Ask and YouChat now offer similar conversational AI services. And on Monday, Google unveiled Bard. Bard is an AI-powered conversational bot that the company says will power the future of its search experience, but it’s not yet available in demo form. Expect to hear more about the possibilities of Bard and other Google AI projects.
