Aintro Handlebars feature integrated internally routed brake levers

When it comes to commuting by bicycle, many people prefer light, simple, and lean “city bikes”. His Aintro handlebars with built-in internally routed brake his levers were designed with just such people in mind.

Currently on Kickstarter, the Made in Italy bar is available in carbon fiber and wood models. The former is said to be half the weight of a comparable aluminum bar with conventional levers, while the latter is said to weigh less than half.

Both models are compatible with cable actuated rims and mechanical disc brakes. A hydraulic version is in the works and will be the subject of a future crowdfunding campaign. In fact, German manufacturer Magura had previously produced his one-off concept his handlebars with hydraulic brakes his hoses routed internally.

Other planned versions of the Aintro bar include versions with integrated thumb shifters, lights and horns.

The Aintro handlebar’s integrated lever design reduces weight and aesthetics, while providing more space for bar-mounted devices such as lights, bells and smartphone holders. The designers also say that by moving the levers closer to the bars and reducing reach, riders can squeeze the levers faster, resulting in quicker braking.

Assuming the Aintro bars reach production, a pledge of €167 (approximately US$180) will get you a carbon model, and €179 ($193) for wood. Planned retail prices are €225 and €239 ($242 and $257) respectively.
