If you’re wondering how the new Galaxy S23 Ultra fares in terms of durability and if it’s easier to repair than its predecessor, PBK Review did you cover Our latest durability and teardown video shows the new phone’s durability and what it looks like inside.
Starting with the durability test, the phone retains full functionality after 3 minutes of submersion in full IP68 glory. The Gorilla Glass Victus 2 screen withstands coin scratches without issue. If you go to the screen with some Morse mineral picks, you’ll see scratches at level 8 and deeper grooves at level 9. This is a slight improvement over the first generation Victus glass.
The back and camera of the S23 Ultra exhibit the same level of scratch resistance. In a drop test, the screen cracked after dropping directly from waist height onto concrete. After dropping the waist height separately, the back also cracks. Despite the cosmetic damage, the screen and the rest of the phone’s components are fully functional.
Moving on to the teardown, we can see that Samsung has made battery swapping fairly easy thanks to the included pull tabs. All flex cables and connectors are neatly labeled, making the repair process much easier.
You can also clearly see the new larger vapor chamber at the 5:20 and 6:40 marks and easily compare its size with the S22 Ultra’s vapor chamber. The Galaxy S23 Ultra has a repairability score of 9/10.
