Twitter on Wednesday announced a feature that allows paying users to post longer tweets. So instead of being limited to 280 characters, Blue subscribers can post Tweets up to 4,000 characters long. The same restrictions apply to Quote Tweets and replies. Twitter says you can post media such as images and videos in addition to longer tweets.
Only Twitter Blue subscribers can post longer tweets, but everyone can read them. The timeline only shows the first 280 characters, and if you want to read more, you can click “see more” as shown in the tweet below.
The introduction of this format means that people who buy subscriptions may be tempted to post tweets that are longer than threads. can be cumbersome and confusing.
Twitter also said on its Blue support page that it will soon cut ads for Blue subscribers in half. Elon Musk has also previously talked about a more expensive ad-free subscription plan.
Previously, Twitter Blue also introduced the ability to post 60-minute videos. Musk certainly wants bloggers and video creators to post content on its platform, but of course it comes at a price.
Twitter Blue has also expanded to India, Brazil and Indonesia, bringing the number of markets where subscriptions are available to 15. In India, Twitter Blue’s monthly fee is 650 rupees ($7.87), which is much higher than other subscription prices such as YouTube Premium, Spotify and Apple Music. The latter are all under $4/month. For comparison, Netflix’s top-tier plan, which allows you to watch the streaming service in 4K quality on four screens, is also 650 rupees per month.
