RydeSafe headlight frees up handlebar space by going on the head tube

Devices like lights, bells, and smartphone holders all compete for space on a typical bike handlebar. The RydeSafe lights are designed to free up some of that space by moving the headlight to the head tube.

Currently in a Kickstarter campaign, the RydeSafe Headtube Bike Light has a soft, grippy silicone outer cover with a built-in 7 inch (178 mm) strap. Lights can also be attached to the handlebars if desired by the user.

180 degree illumination is provided by a strip of 10 LEDs with a total output of 50 lumens. So this is definitely a visible light, not a road light. And with IPX4 water resistance, it’s protected against splashes from all directions.

A single USB charge of RydeSafe’s lithium battery is claimed to be good for up to 7 hours of runtime, depending on which of the four output modes is selected. It reportedly weighs 56 grams (2 ounces) overall and comes in 10 body colors to choose from.

Assuming the headlight reaches production, you can buy it for a US$32 pledge. Planned retail price is $40. For a $52 pledge, backers can also get matching taillights (total retail price of $80).
