‘The Last of Us’ episode 5 has a monstrous MVP — and it isn’t a Bloater

It’s pretty hard to stage a fungal colossus that’s a bloater, but in episode 5 of Last of Us, one pint-sized clicker manages to get the job done. I’m talking, of course, about the girl Clicker (Sky Bell Cowton) who attacks Ellie (Bella Ramsey) while she’s hiding in her car.

The scene comes in the middle of a fierce battle between the Infected and the Kansas City revolutionary movement led by Kathleen (Melanie Lynskey). Ellie, Henry (Lamar Johnson) and Sam (Kevon Woodard) try to escape as chaos rages around them. For Ellie, it’s about getting into an abandoned car through her tiny window and hoping nothing follows her.

Unfortunately for her, something doFortunately for viewers, though, this something creates one of the episode’s scariest (and thrilling) moments.

All welcome little clicker girls.

As Ellie waits for the carnage in her old car, Cowton’s Clicker comes in through the window behind her. This isn’t the full-grown adult clicker we saw in previous episodes. This clicker takes the form of a little girl. Perhaps she’s one of the kids in the underground Kansas City community Henry mentions. It’s always scary to see a creature crawling behind a protagonist, but here that fear is amplified by the fact that this monster is an infected, or zombified, child.

The undead child is a staple of the zombie genre, from George A. Romero’s definition of the subgenre. zombie night(opens in new tab) hit drama series the walking dead(opens in new tab)A special kind of terror arises when one sees an innocent youth transformed into an ignorant and bloodthirsty beast. Last of Uschild clicker is no exception. This girl, like all human hosts in Cordyceps, she once had her family, friends, and her whole life, but she never grew up. Her appearance is especially unforgettable for Ellie. If she wasn’t affected by the fungus, she might not look much different than this clicker.

As Ellie frantically escapes and closes the door behind her, the clicker cuts through the window and gets out.

These unnatural movements are not only terrifying to watch a child perform, but are even more terrifying because of their even child-like qualities. or throwing tantrums at these moves. absolutely Didn’t expect this.

Little clickers don’t seem to be on Ellie’s side.

Not long after a young clicker tries to take Ellie’s life, she ends up saving it.

Ellie, Henry, and Sam try to escape, but Kathleen stops them. Just before this stubborn leader shoots them down, a little girl clicker sneaks up behind her and tackles Kathleen just like she did to Ellie, cutting her car window exactly like I cut her like that.

Kathleen has a morbid poetic righteousness and meets her end at the hands of a child. The brutal killing occurs mere minutes after Kathleen bluntly says, “Children die, Henry. They die all the time.”

She’s not wrong: we saw FEDRA kill an infected child in the first episode. Last of UsJoel’s daughter, Sarah, died while trying to escape the initial outbreak. And Kathleen was ready to easily kill Ellie and Sam.

Luckily for this newly minted team of survivors, a little clicker girl made it to Kathleen first. and No doubt she earned her place as the episode’s clicker MVP for providing chilling horror imagery.
