- The device could also feature a new, more powerful flagship SoC.
The upcoming Xperia flagship phone has leaked what it claims to be renders, and while the design may look familiar, Sony may be changing things up a bit with the camera.
The alleged rendering is offered Created by well-known Twitter leaker OnLeaks and edited by Green Smartphones. At first glance, the leaked early look of the Xperia 1 V looks very similar to the 2022-released Xperia 1 IV and its predecessors. The device still appears to offer a 6.5-inch display and a similar vertical triple camera array on the back.
However, in a somewhat unexpected move, the Xperia 1 V may have slightly upgraded its triple array by offering a 12MP main shooter, a 48MP wide-angle lens, and a 12MP telephoto lens. The array on the back may also have a slightly larger camera bump when comparing the Xperia 1 V and the Xperia 1 IV. A front-facing punch-hole camera may offer a 12MP lens.
Past leaks have revealed some changes that could be welcome to the Xperia 1 V’s camera. It looked like Sony was upgrading tech from his 3D ToF (Time of light) and RGB-IR sensors and perhaps (eventually) moving away from the 50MP IMX sensor. But as the latest rumors suggest, the only difference from the underwhelming 12MP triple camera array is the 48MP wide-angle lens you can plug in.
A possible whisper of difference lies inside the upcoming device. Rumor has it that the Xperia 1 V could take advantage of the recently launched Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 mobile platform. This is the same chip Samsung uses in the Galaxy S23 Ultra. The new flagship could come with an impressive 16 GB of RAM, but that’s just speculation for now.
Other aspects of the phone may also carry over from its predecessor in 2023, including significantly larger bezels, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a camera shutter button, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, and a 5,000mAh battery.
It’s still unclear when the Xperia 1 V will launch, but rumors suggest it could be in summer 2023. The new flagship device will also be spotted at the MWC 2023 event later this month. We’re guessing we’ll be able to find out more about it.In addition, we may also find details on that price tag, which could be as hefty as the $1600 tag attached to the Xperia 1 IV.
