‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ review: Marvel demands too much from its audience

Michael Peña’s absence should have been a warning. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has grown to be so massive and all-consuming that an Ant-Man movie isn’t enough to be an Ant-Man movie. There must be a flood of new characters that are flimsy excuses for merchandise. We also need a celebrity cameo for cheap thrills and head-scratching world-building to lay the groundwork for his latest MCU phase. In all this Ant-Man & Wasp: Quantumanias It’s a chaotic, not-so-funny mess that forgets why its heroes were so much fun.

Not only is the thrill gone, it’s buried under a bevy of conspiracy gimmicks and truly terrifying CGI.

Specifically, she has earned the wrath of Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors), who wants to get out of this small world he is trying to conquer and into the wider world. To Stoll’s credit, he brought much-needed vitality and humor to this overstuffed family drama, making even the worst of the dialogue a blast. Got the biggest laughs. But Reid’s biggest visual joke in the film is the MODOK design. It’s a twisted combination of metal, shiny flesh, and goop.that teeth It’s funny, but it’s also distractingly repulsive.

Kang The Conqueror is a terrifyingly overwhelming Big Bad.

It’s confusing how the MCU recruited one of its most talked-about rising stars (Jonathan Majors) and made his big screen debut into a suffocatingly stiff role. in contrast to Loki) dressed in silly costumes (I don’t care what it looked like in the comics), but no humor or quirkiness.

It is a work that MCU can enjoy.

The MCU movies were funny. Whether you knew comics or not, they were a thrilling adventure, laced with thoughtful humor, eye-popping action, and intense character moments.But with the 31st entry, it’s no longer a lighthearted dive in for a good time. Ant-Man & Wasp: Quantumanias With little interest in heroes, sidekicks, and villains, if you haven’t played the game beforehand in the previous movies (which are better), this doesn’t add up to the sum of its parts. No shame. It’s a shame the lead and the company forgot about it.
