With fuel and gas prices soaring as a result of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, for many of us the question of reducing energy use is not “if” but “how.” So where do you start?
A thought experiment by Swiss researchers might help. If we share all the energy produced in the world, everyone gets about 2000 watts of continuous power. This equates to 48 kilowatt hours per day. Those who did this calculation in the 1990s envisioned a society of 2000 watts.
