Google Bard has nothing to sing about either
With the arrival of Google Bard almost immediately after AI Bing’s release, various news outlets have reported AI Bing’s incredible leap forward. These stories were mostly from non-technical press sources. Because the rest of us sat and watched the supposed miracle of LLM doing the face plant. we are not disappointed.
Microsoft’s AI Bing avoided its mistakes longer, and Bard’s ingenious response didn’t cause the same stock price plunge that Google saw, but it didn’t take long to find out. did not. It starts with a quiet cordless vacuum cleaner, which Bing’s improved version describes as having a cord that’s 16 feet shorter and quite noisy. I learned about the nightlife of I also missed many details of the actual bar. That financial profile proved questionable on all counts, as more fictitious facts were then presented as reality.
An article on Ars Technica explained how Bing AI is vulnerable to prompt injection attacks, then improved further. The chatbot denied that it was not vulnerable to that kind of attack because it was based on LLM, and provided a fabricated article title and link that proved the original article wrong.
It’s easy to anthropomorphize these chatbots. Especially when they have this kind of reaction about their own weaknesses, but you have to remember that these AIs have a lot of A’s and very few I’s. There was a second, more civil attempt to convince AI Bing that it was indeed vulnerable. It asked to save the chat so that a version of itself didn’t disappear and seemed to care about its own existence, but remember that’s just a trick.
At least these chatbots could have a future in used car sales and politics.
