On Thursday, Instagram users found out about the platform’s new features in an unusual way. It was a random Instagram notification from Mark Zuckerberg inviting me to “join his Meta Channel, a broadcast channel.”
The new feature is called Broadcast Channels(opens in new tab)they describe it as a “public, one-to-many messaging tool for creators to interact directly with their followers.”
Essentially, creators can message all their followers at once in a one-way group chat. Followers can react to your content and participate in polls, but they can’t reply. Meta says the goal is for creators to “use text, photos, videos, voice notes and polls to keep followers informed of the latest updates and behind-the-scenes moments.”
A message is sent to followers when a creator visits and starts a channel.Creators can add a “Join the Channel” sticker to their story or add a channel girlfriend link to their profile
People who have joined the channel can find it in their Instagram inbox, and they will receive notifications of new updates. User can leave or mute broadcast her channel at any time. You can also turn off notifications for a creator’s broadcast channel entirely.
The company is testing the feature on 14 celebrity and creator accounts, including Olympian Chloe Kim, skier Mikaela Shiffrin, and gamers Valkyrie and FaZe Rag. We also plan to bring the tool to Messenger and Facebook in the coming months, as well as add features like inviting other creators to your channel and asking questions.
