There is a particular school of thought that says “real” science fiction should be full of ideas about how science and technology will change our world. This is often referred to as “hard” sci-fi, and some see deviations from this style in the most belligerent way possible.
I am not a purist. I think of SF as a broad church, almost with the power of imagination.
