From sea turtles and divers swimming in harmony in Malaysia to red-eyed tree frogs in Costa Rica’s rainforest, take a peek at some of the winners of one of the most prestigious photo contests.

Manuel Rodriguez, Costa Rica, Shortlisted for Latin America National Awards

This spectacular selection of images, embodying the magnificence and diversity of nature, is one of the best in the 2023 Sony World Photography Awards competition, open to entries from around the world.

Thien Nguyen Ngoc, Vietnam, Laureate, National Award

In the Vietnam category, Thien Nguyen Ngoc won for his tranquil shot of a sea turtle and a diver swimming together in harmony off the coast of Malaysia’s Perhentian Islands (pictured above). Below is the winning entry from Bangladesh. The yellow eyes of a spotted owl peeking out of its tree trunk nest in the country’s National Botanical Gardens, photographed by Protap Shekhor Mohanto.

The main image has another dramatic eye feature, this time of a red-eyed tree frog from the Costa Rica rainforest, and was shortlisted by Manuel Rodriguez in the Latin American category.

Andres Novales, Guatemala, Shortlisted, Latin American National Awards

Guatemala’s Andres Novales also made this shortlist for his ominous shot of a crocodile on the muddy banks of the Usumacinta River (pictured above) taken near the end of Guatemala’s rainy season. Alligators are an encouraging sight, as they are important indicators of a healthy ecosystem.

Huazheng Hong, Singapore, National Award Winner

The award was also a nod to some dazzling natural scenery.The image above by Huazheng Hong is the winner from Singapore. He captured the huge Ilulissat iceberg off the coast of Greenland. Below is a shortlist shot by his Vlatko Rafeski in North Macedonia. It is from the Italian Dolomites Mountains showing the double-headed peaks of the Peitlerkofel in the background.

The awards exhibition will take place from 14th April to 1st May at Somerset House in London.
