prologue
Vivo’s workhorse is the strangest swarm you’ve ever seen. Each new generation differs from its predecessor with shuffled features, different types of cameras, changed screen resolutions, and more. The only things we always expect are camera technology upgrades and chipset improvements. And that explains the new vivo X90 Pro.
The latest X90 top-of-the-line lineup consists of three smartphones: the latest X90 Pro+, the regular X90 Pro, and the toned-down X90. Today we’re going to talk about the vivo X90 Pro, the first smartphone to feature the new Dimensity 9200 chipset and one of the few smartphones to offer a 1-inch camera sensor.

Innovation starts with design. The vivo X90 Pro features a larger camera housing with a perfectly round shape. The back panel is covered in black vegan leather, and there are no other color options available, at least not in the international market.
Beneath its screen, the X90 Pro hides MediaTek’s flagship SoC. The Dimensity 9200 includes the latest CPU core, X3, with an 11-core GPU, plenty of RAM and storage. There’s also a huge heatsink, probably one of the biggest ever put on a phone, which should help deliver better and sustained performance.
The charging capabilities of this new vivo X90 Pro are also very good, supporting 120W fast wired charging (50% in 8 minutes according to the official specs) and 50W fast wired charging.
The X series has always been about cameras, and the vivo X90 Pro packs an impressive kit. We have his 50MP primary camera with a 1-inch sensor, the same Sony IMX 979 used in the Xiaomi 12S Ultra. We also have a 50MP 2x telephoto camera, followed by his 12MP ultra-wide camera with autofocus. The entire imaging system relies on the latest version. A combination of vivo’s X2 imaging chip and Zeiss lenses.

None of the X90 models have gimbal stabilization this year. This is a feature that some vivo phones have offered in the past with their primary, telephoto, or ultra-wide cameras. Instead, the primary and portrait cameras rely on his traditional OIS system.
We talked about shuffled features, but the display is one of the unpredictable ones. This year’s vivo X90 Pro uses a 6.78-inch AMOLED with 1260p resolution, 10-bit color depth, 120Hz refresh rate and HDR10+ certification. For comparison, the X80 Pro had a 1440p display, while the X70 Pro relied on a smaller 1080p OLED.
vivo X90 Pro uses Android 13 and Funtouch 13 UI, Chinese version runs on Origin OS 3.

When it comes to modern features, the vivo X90 Pro lacks very little. The phone is IP68 rated, made for the global market and uses flagship screens, cameras, chipsets and charging solutions. A slightly longer telephoto lens, say 2.5x or 3x, might have been better, but vivo markets this camera for portrait use, so the 50mm lens is worth the course.
And now, here is the vivo X90 Pro out of the box.
Unpacking the vivo X90 Pro
The vivo X90 Pro arrives in a big black box. This is what we have come to love and expect from this manufacturer. Inside, we have the X90 Pro, complete with a large 120W charger and a USB-C-to-C cable rated at 6A.

Of course, that’s not all. The box also includes a clear silicone case, but the phone comes with a thin protective film applied at the end of the manufacturing process. Far from it (which means it’s still a dirty magnet).
