The Blackview BV9200 is the latest tough smartphone introduced to our office. It’s a rugged phone that’s certified to withstand the toughest conditions, and the company claims it’s improved materials to handle a wider range of challenges.
The device can be thrown into a lake, run over by a car, or dropped from a height of over a meter and tell a story alive. With MIL-STD-810H, IP68, and IP69K certification, don’t take BlackView at its word.
It’s also a very capable mid-ranger, with a 50MP main camera, dedicated buttons for quick access to selected apps, and a notification light on the back.
The device is thinner than most rugged smartphones. The 310-gram weight feels lighter than it first appeared. Without compromising the build, Blackview implemented the stereo speakers on the sides of the rubber frame. This is most welcome.
The sound is tuned with Harman AudioEFX. We’ve done our own audio testing, and at first glance (or should I say at first hearing), the speakers are big, rich, and truly stereo.
The battery has a capacity of 5,000mAh, which isn’t very impressive for a big rugged phone, but it supports 66W fast charging and comes with the necessary adapter in the box. The BV9200 also supports 30W wireless charging and works with high rate Qi chargers. On top of that, there’s reverse wired charging limited to 5W.
Once all the testing is done, a final verdict will be made as to whether $299 is a good price for such a phone, and I have a hunch that it might be worth it.
