YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki, one of the most prominent women in the tech world, has announced that she is stepping down from her role. In a letter to her YouTube employees, Wojcicki explains that her reasons for stepping down as CEO are to focus on her family, health, and passion projects.

She will be replaced by Neal Monhan, who has worked closely with Wojcicki for many years and has worked under her at YouTube since 2015. Monhan joined Google in 2007 with its acquisition of DoubleClick, eventually becoming Senior Vice President of Display and Video Advertising. He eventually became YouTube’s Chief Product Officer in 2015 and has led YouTube’s trust and safety team.

Susan hasn’t left YouTube yet. Her letter explains that she will support Monhan throughout her transition and will continue to work with the YouTube team, coach her members on the team, and meet creators. Wojcicki has “agreed with Sundar to assume an advisory role across Google and Alphabet” in the long term, where he will provide guidance and counseling across Google’s business.
Susan holds a unique place in Google’s history and has made significant contributions to products used by people around the world. […] We are grateful for all she has accomplished over the past 25 years,” said Larry Page and Sergey Brin, founders of Google, in a statement.
Susan Wojcicki was the person Page and Brin rented out of their garage to start Google. She eventually became a Google employee a year later.
