Like many of its contemporaries, YouTube Music will also be adding podcasts to its library of audio and video content. Kai Chuk, YouTube’s head of podcasting, confirmed to The Verge that the feature is coming “in the near future.”
Podcasts are available to all users, free or premium, with the free tier getting regular ad-supported playback with background audio support. Audio-first shows also get a special podcast badge to highlight them.
“If someone wants to watch a podcast, we have a solution,” says Chuk. “If someone just wants to listen to podcasts, they should have a great experience with that as well.”
YouTube is not currently considering adding exclusive shows or licensed originals. Instead, it claims to focus on creators and YouTube users.
