Today Tecno unveiled its first foldable smartphone, the Phantom V Fold. Here’s a video of the key features to get you started.
The Tecno Phantom V Fold arrives in a spacious package. You get a cool aramid fiber case for the back panel with a built-in kickstand. It is an integral part of the foldable phone case. It also comes with a 45W charger. That’s more than Samsung’s recent foldable phones.
Tecno adopted a book-style design with its first foldable mobile phone. But the rear panel stands out among the foldables thanks to its unique recycled plastic design that bears no resemblance to that of the Phantom X2 Pro.
Its grip and grainy texture in your hand is a breath of fresh air next to the myriad of different glass panels we’re used to. It’s not.

Despite its ease of use, the Tecno Phantom V Fold fits securely in your hand. It’s solidly built and, when closed, resembles your average buffon, tapering slightly to a comfortable, relatively thin frame.
When you want to pry open the Phantom V-fold, the edges of the frame itself taper to create a narrow slit for your fingers.
The Tecno Phantom V Fold’s cover display is a 6.42-inch 1080x2550px AMOLED, capable of variable refresh rates up to 120Hz. The panel is easier to use than the Galaxy Z Fold4’s narrower cover display.
Another area where the Tecno Foldable excels is the massive 5,000mAh internal battery.
Handling is double
The internal display is also 7.85 inches, which is larger than the Galaxy Z Fold4. It is also a 120Hz AMOLED panel with a resolution of 2000x2296px.
It simply has a larger panel than the Galaxy Z Fold4, allowing more things to fit. However, by default, the Phantom V Fold is set to a slightly larger scale factor. This means that the UI is slightly larger than Galaxy’s.
The creases on the Tecno Phantom V Fold are less noticeable than on the Galaxy Z Fold4. This is because the hinge design is different.
Tecno Phantom V Fold next to Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4
The Phantom V Fold closes flat, but the Galaxy Z Fold4 has a small gap that allows dust and particles to enter the pocket.

In terms of design, the Tecno Phantom V Fold is superior to the Galaxy Z Fold4. But there are nuances to this. The hinge that Tecno uses can’t stay in place like Samsung’s folding can.
Then there’s the Galaxy’s water resistance and the fact that at 263g, the Galaxy Z Fold4 is a full 36 grams lighter than the 299g Tecno Phantom V Fold.
It is inevitable that the Tecno Phantom V Fold is a heavy device. But it literally has more battery capacity and more display area on both ends.
